I thought I’d do something a little different: Give a little appreciation to a show that I love but I haven’t seen too much fan art of it. This show is, the Octonauts.

Why do I love this show so much? It’s kind of hard to explain, but let me go through it in sections.

Let’s start of with the premise. The basic idea of every episode is that our little heroes go out into the ocean to explore underwater worlds, rescue sea creatures and protect the oceans. It is even said in the intro by Kwazii, Peso and Barnacles at the end of each opening theme. “Explore.” “Rescue.” “Protect.”

The next part is what sea creatures are being shown here. The majority of the sea creatures here are animals I would have no idea about if I hadn’t of watched this show. There’s the immortal jellyfish, a type of jellyfish who can change from it’s grown up form into a baby jellyfish and start it’s life all over again. Then there's a cone snail, a snail who spits out tiny harpoons filled with poison that can make you very sick. And there’s also a giant spider crab, a crab who is very large that resembles a large spider. Had it not been for this show, I probably wouldn’t have the same interest in sea creatures I have today.

Another thing is, how much the show takes risks with it’s writing. In multiple episodes when I was watching them for the 1st time, I was stunned at what they were able to show on a children’s program. There were things like sharks chasing after the Octonauts, the Octopod nearly crash landing in the Midnight Zone, and even an episode where one of the characters nearly lost their air supply. What amazes me here is just how dark some of these themes are, and how serious the writers are when handling them.

There are other facts about sea creatures and other things I found out in the show too. In one episode, I learned that sea otters (like Shellington), is a keystone species: the sea creatures depend on them to each red sea urchins to keep them under control to prevent the kelp forests from being destroyed. Another episode showed me that a lot of different fish swallow air bubbles to stay afloat, and when they want to sink lower, they burp the air back out again. And there was also an episode where Barnacles gets stung by a jellyfish and Peso heals it with vinegar. Without this show, I wouldn’t know over half of this stuff.

But what really gets me going, are the characters in general. Each of the main characters are well fleshed out, and get their own little moments to shine. I even see parts of myself in them. I can be as noble as Barnacles, as risk taking as Kwazii, as sweet as Dashi, as creative as Tweak, as energetic as Shellington, as knowledgeable as Inkling, as helpful as Tunip, or as compassionate as Peso. Heh… I will admit, Peso is kind of like my 2nd crush. That’s why I kind of got jealous when I saw Tweak hugging him in one of the episodes.

So, that’s why I love this show so much. Thanks for reading.
A little ramble about one of my favourite animated programs on TV. Gosh, if Mr. Enter is looking for Admirable Animations, he could use a few of these episodes.

As for if you want to check out a few episodes, here's the list of the best starter episodes:
Octonauts and the Remipedes: This one shows how Shellington isn't the best pilot, and could make for some good fanfictions.
Octonauts and the Enemy Anemones: This episode has every single one of the main cast in a speaking role, and they all have good shining moments.
Octonauts and the Combtooth Blenny: This shows some good brotherly interactions between Kwazii and Peso, and strongly reminds me of the Rainbow Dash/Fluttershy sisterly relationship. (Probably a good episode for you, Darth.)
Octonauts and the Jellyfish Bloom: This episode is one of the more intense ones, and it take risks.

If you see any of those episodes, or another one, do report back and tell me what you think. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I made this up. 🤞🏻 you like it.

💚Sonny- Thanks for saving me, man.

🐱🏴‍☠️- How’d you get dragged into this storm matey?

💚Sonny- The water just swept me away. Seahorses aren’t very good swimmers. We pretty much go where the water takes us.

🐧- You can come back to the octopod and rest until the storm is over.

💚Sonny- But we need to find 💖Janice, the water pulled her away too I’m really worried (feels a contraction) 😣 and I’m about to have our babies.

🐱🏴‍☠️- In that case we must find her before you… What did you say?!?!

💚Sonny- (feels another contraction) 😣 I’m about to give birth to our babies. I hope 💖 Janice’s ok.

🐱🏴‍☠️- But… daddies don’t have babies, moms do! Don’t they?

💚Sonny- Not when you’re a father seahorse.

🐧- The mother seahorse transfers her eggs into the father seahorse’s special brood pouch, then he carries the eggs until the baby seahorses are ready to be born which can take 4 to 6 weeks.

🐱🏴‍☠️- Well, I’ll be a 🌊 🐒’s uncle!
